Dr. Angela Wellman is a musician, scholar, educator, and activist whose practice investigates the musical history of West Africa before the transatlantic slave trade, tracing the influence and legacy of sound traditions and sonic technologies used to connect with the Divine.

Her research involves listening for the song we have yet to hear in the afterlife of slavery, the Blues before the Blues, and how it journeyed through the Middle Passage.
